Global Scenario

The healthcare industry is world’s largest industry. Availability of Physicians (doctors) and paramedics is key to addressing the healthcare needs of the people. Nurses need certain unique skills and knowledge to play their part in this thriving industry. Presently, many countries in the world are facing severe shortage of trained nurses. Across the world Health Departments are projecting an acute shortage of nurses that are expected to become so critical that it may affect the quality of the patient care. The main reason for shortage of nurses in countries like US, UK, Singapore, Middle East are declining number of nursing school graduates, ageing of nursing workforce, declines in relative earnings, and the emergence of alternative job opportunities. The serious nursing shortage in these countries has created an evident and heavy dependence on foreign trained nurses.

India, the Global Destination

One of India’s major strengths is its human resources. India has time and again fulfilled the skilled human resource requirements across the globe. In the past, Indian Doctors and IT Engineers have filled the shortages in the world and it is now the turn of Indian nurses to take up the opportunities in the global healthcare markets created by huge shortages for nursing resources in recent years.

India has a large pool of quality nurses. The number if nursing institutions has increased over the years. This led to a good turn out of nurses every year. Some of the advantages an Indian nurse enjoys over her/his counterparts around the world are:

- Excellent fluency in English language
- Nursing knowledge & expertise comparable to international standards.

Ever since the explosion of information that there are excellent overseas job opportunities for the nurses, India has positioned itself as a potential source for recruiting nurses for many countries in the world. The US has placed test sites for CGFNS (www.cgfns.org) and NCLEX-RN (www.ncsbn.org) examinations in India, the NHS hospitals (www.nhs.uk  and www.nmc-uk.org) have been recruiting large number of nurses from India, and so is Ireland, Singapore, Middle East countries. The Government of Indian approves the nurses taking international positions. Indian nurses have a few gaps in their readiness to serve abroad that can be overcome with proper training.

Apollo trained nurses are already acknowledged for their excellence, and have landed jobs in the US, UK, EU, Ireland, Middle East, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Although the initial driver for this program had been to help Apollo nurses who wished to serve abroad, the program has now grown in scope and has ambitious targets and a vision for touching lives across the globe. The program also has good financial returns and win-win situation.
